SCHOOLS look at these Preparedness documents

SF Lake Tahoe Travel Examiner: Swine Flu in Schools-preparedness measures

...Here are a few documents to assist schools:  childcare and preschools, and information for school districts.  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offer these checklists to help programs prepare for the effects of a flu pandemic.

Georgetown Law Center published:  Legal Response for School Closures. This analysis specifically addresses whether state laws expressly authorize state or local department(s) of health, education, and/or emergency management to close schools during non-emergencies and declared emergencies in response to pandemic influenza or other public health emergencies.  Also examined in this report are those laws within each state that appear to expressly authorize school closure for extended periods during non-emergencies and declared emergencies.

Pandemicflu.gov published:  Control of Pandemic Flu Virus on Environmental Surfaces in Homes and Public Places. This fact sheet explains how cleaning and disinfecting surfaces in homes and public places (like schools) can help to prevent the spread of pandemic influenza.

Community Info: There will be an emergency exercise at the Bellingham Airport on September 24, 2011 for Community Emergency Response Team members who are willing to participate. This exercise involves many emergency departments in Bellingham and is a great way to participae and learn first hand the overall rescue process. For more information or to enroll, contact Andrew 945-1801.

September Tip: Remember, in any emergency or disaster, communication between family members is important and sometimes difficult. Experts suggest having an out-of-state relative or friend as a central point for all family members to connect with and leave messages. This will enable members to contact someone who is not affected by the emergency. Stay connected to stay safe.
